PiP & PoP - Devlog-1

Hello to whoever minds reading  this, I'll tell you about the development of this silly tiny game I'm making.

It all started when I saw this: https://itch.io/jam/my-first-game-jam-summer-2020
Game Jams intimidated the fuck outta me because they are usually a 2 day kind of ordeal and I thought "there's no way I can make a game in 2 days", so knowing I could participate into one with a more lax timeframe filled me with joy. and so I started conceptualizing...

It's gotta be simple

it's gotta be fun... or at least aim to be

and while doing so I noticed the Game Jam, had an optional Theme of "Change" and that made it easier for me to think of what I wanted to do, I thought "change playable characters!" and then it organically developed into what I'm currently doing with this project.

so then I thought of simple shapes, a circle and a square, and it quickly evolved into giving each certain abilities to navigate the levels, as of now, PiP(the square character) can only walk and isn't harmed by spikes while, PoP(Circle) moves, jumps and crawls but can be harmed which restarts the current level you're playing.

and so development began, I started a new Unity project and I put things together in a matter of 3-4 days, trying to come up with ways to implement certain feature, reading documentation and watching tutorials... and then it happened, I foolishly clicked some thing that I shouldn't have and fucked with the project. I had to do it all over again, but I managed to save my codes and for the past couple of days I remade the current state of my game with what I've recently learned.

anyway the game is still a Work in progress, here are some features I'll add to it

[Upcoming Features]

-I'm meaning to make levels where PiP and PoP share the screen, so I'll implement the mechanic to switch between them with a single button - [space] perhaps.

-There are some bugs here and there that I should fix (namely, while paused Pop can still crouch and you can see it flop gleefully):

-As of now, there are only 6 levels, but before the Game Jam is over I hope I can publish up to 20.

-Graphically speaking, the game is ugly so I'll be working on giving it more... pizazz!

-The Pause button just freezes the game, and that's meh.

-Music... I honestly don't know what I'm gonna do with it.

on Devlogs I'll show you some conceptual notes I did befroe I started and the direction this project of mine is taking. Until then have a good day and take care.
